Moved to WA
Well I have moved from Arizona to Washington. It takes a lot of doing. I am still looking for a new job to pay the bills, but at least I am settled enough to start game dev again.
The latest updates on the game are that I got it working in both Windows and Linux. I solved a lot of bugs in the process and also am trying 128x128 pixel textures. I am using SDL2, C and CLion to make everything. This makes some things easier and other things MUCH, MUCH harder (memory leaks, no pre-made anything, etc).
The new textures give the game a cleaner look. The 64x64 texture size was fun when the game was running in a 320x240 window. I am targeting the Steam Deck so am using the virtual resolution of 1/2 it's native rez (1280x600 halved is 640x300). This resolution begged for more detail to me, but, you tell me which screenshot you like more.
The gameplay will be inspired by FRUIT.EXE. An old DOS block-pusher puzzle game. I loaded my old HP 200LX which runs DOS and played a bit. It's still fun. I was also shocked to find that the levels are only 18x12. Subtracting the borders gives you 17x11. That's not much considering there are many levels. For whatever reason I thought the levels would be something like 80x60. It just goes to show how much can be done with less.
